Watch: Liverpool’s beautiful montage that Jurgen Klopp went viral for filming

ThisIsAnfield.com - 3 hours 55 min ago

Earlier in the week, Jurgen Klopp was pictured standing alone on the Kop, with the footage going viral – and it turns out he was filming for Liverpool.

Klopp caught the attention on Tuesday as he was pictured in an empty Anfield, standing alone on the Kop wearing a red-and-white club scarf.

It since emerged that the manager was joined by every staff member involved at Liverpool for one final photo, with drone footage showing him running out of the tunnel.

Liverpool have now released the finished footage from that day, with Klopp filmed emerging onto the pitch to be greeted by the trophies he won over the last eight-and-a-half years.

“This is goodbye, then,” Klopp said.

“I love absolutely everything about this club. I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team.

“After all the years we had together, and after all the time we spent together, and after all the things we through together, the respect grew, the love grew.

“I came as a normal guy, I am still a normal guy, I just don’t live a normal life.

“I not only feel home, but I am home. I love Anfield. I love Anfield when it’s rocking. We really showed what togetherness can do.

“It’s difficult to say farewell, but let’s remember the good times. I will, forever.

“I will never forget you, all of you. And I will miss you like hell. See you.”

The video is four minutes and 57 seconds that perfectly sum up not only Klopp’s time at the club, but his impact on the city and its people, and the sadness at his farewell.

For most, there will never be another manager like Klopp in their lifetime; a truly generational leader who can be considered among the best to ever represent Liverpool.

It is only fitting that he is given the right goodbye, with Sunday set to be a relentlessly emotional day at Anfield.

‘DANKE JURGEN’ – Jurgen Klopp’s farewell mosaic at Anfield revealed

ThisIsAnfield.com - 4 hours 26 min ago

A huge mosaic, encompassing three sides of Anfield, has been placed out ready for Jurgen Klopp‘s farewell match as Liverpool FC manager.

Organised by supporters, 80 volunteers took time out of their day on Saturday to place almost 24,000 individual cards to create the incredible artwork that will be displayed pre-match on Sunday.

As ever, the mosaic is the brainchild of Red All Over The Land fanzine’s Andy Knott, who designs the mosaic and organises the installation of the individual cards.

Fans split into groups to place the cards individually on each seat in each block of the stands, with this one of the most intricate designs ever undertaken, and encompassing The Kop, the Lower Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand and the home section of the Anfield Road Lower Tier.

PHOTOS: 20 years of Liverpool’s Kop mosaics

Andy has been creating mosaics for Liverpool since 1996, with displays every year on the anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, plus commemorative designs for past players, legends and other notable events.

This, though, is one of the biggest undertaken and also intricate for the design of Jurgen celebrating in front of The Kop, which will be in the Lower Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand section.

Credit to all those who took the time to help create the spectacular display. It promises to look spectacular when fans hold the display up pre-match on what will be an emotionally-charged atmosphere at Anfield.

Danke Jurgen.

“I have never walked alone” – Jurgen Klopp’s final matchday programme notes

ThisIsAnfield.com - 5 hours 11 min ago

Jurgen Klopp used his final matchday programme notes as Liverpool manager to pay tribute to the players, staff and fans who ensured he “never walked alone.”

In his role as Liverpool manager, Klopp has had a column in every Anfield matchday programme since he took over, giving an insight into his thoughts before kickoff.

That ends on Sunday, with the German departing the club after eight-and-a-half unforgettable years, which left him in reflective mood in his pre-match address.

While he was eager to stress the importance of taking three points against Wolves, writing in the matchday programme, Klopp acknowledged the players, the staff and the supporters.

He wrote:

“Of course, this is my final game as Liverpool manager. This is something you have all known for a few months and I have known for a little longer but as much as I know it is the right time for me to leave I know also that it will take some getting used to. If the starting point was the announcement, the next big step into the future is Sunday.

“If space allowed I could write name after name of people who I need to thank but there has never been a match programme of this size, so I will have to be more general. I could not be more appreciative of the players past and present who have served this club in the nine years that I have been here.

“What they have achieved in that time is special, not just in terms of the moments they have created and the success they have had, but also in the way they have underlined what it is to represent LFC.”

Klopp is not the only person leaving Liverpool this summer, with a large number of his coaching staff and others behind the scenes moving on along with both Thiago and Joel Matip.

The manager continued:

“The big positive for Liverpool is that no matter who is leaving, the club is still in a very, very good place. This season we aimed for the moon and ended up in the stars which is never too bad and the players and staff who are remaining are top, top class.

“Yes, they will have new leadership before too long but this is a club that is ready to take the journey in a new and exciting direction, not one that is ready for the journey to come to an end.”

From the very first day, back on October 8, 2015, Klopp has stressed the importance of the fans, and that shone through in his final, emotive words:

“Finally, to the supporters I have only thanks and love. Everything that we have done has been because of you, with you and for you. I have referred many times to the banner on the Kop which says Unity Is Strength and I think this is a belief that we have all lived up to.

“The important thing now is that it continues so that my successor can have the same benefits of it as I’ve had. After Sunday I will be a supporter too, so hopefully I can play my part in that.

“I have never walked alone. You will never walk alone. LFC will never walk alone.

“Thank you Luv.”

Vital member of staff leaving Liverpool after 16 years – Jurgen Klopp confirms

ThisIsAnfield.com - 6 hours 56 min ago

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that a crucial member of Liverpool’s behind-the-scenes staff will also leave the club this summer, as Ray Haughan departs after 16 years.

Sunday will be the last day at Liverpool FC for many of the club’s backroom team, including at least seven members of Klopp’s coaching staff.

Pepijn Lijnders, Peter Krawietz, Vitor Matos, John Achterberg, Jack Robinson, Andreas Kornmayer and Andreas Schlumberger are already known to be departing.

Liverpool are also set to see Haughan, the club’s general manager of first-team operations, move on after 16 years at Anfield.

Klopp confirmed the news himself in his programme notes ahead of his final game in charge against Wolves.

Haughan joined Liverpool from Bolton in 2008, initially as team admin manager before becoming first-team operations manager in 2016 and then being promoted again in 2019.

In his current role, the long-serving figure ensured day-to-day life at the club ran smoothly, including managing players’ schedules, organising travel and planning pre-season logistics.

He could often be seen watching on during matchdays from the tunnel or near the dugout, while he would join players and staff for celebrations on the pitch.

Klopp praised his input as Liverpool made a phased return to training during COVID-19 lockdown in 2020, describing it as a “massive organisational challenge.”

“What Ray Haughan did in that department is unbelievable,” the manager told LiverpoolFC.com.

Haughan’s exit comes as Fenway Sports Group oversee seismic change off the field at Liverpool this summer, instigated by Klopp’s resignation in November.

Further staff departures can be expected, with FSG’s arriving CEO of football Michael Edwards presiding over the situation as a new era begins.

Edwards has already appointed Richard Hughes as sporting director and David Woodfine as assistant sporting director, while Arne Slot will replace Klopp as head coach.

Slot is due to be joined by Feyenoord staff members Sipke Hulshoff, Etienne Reijnen and Ruben Peeters, with more appointments to come.

Julian Ward, former Liverpool sporting director, has also agreed to join FSG in the new role of technical director, while Pedro Marques arrives from Benfica as director of football development.

It remains to be seen how Haughan will be replaced, though the immediate effect of his departure will be softened as plans for pre-season are already in place.

Liverpool are set to tour the United States for the first time since 2019, with friendlies against Real Betis (in Pittsburgh), Arsenal (Philadelphia) and Man United (Columbia).

Jurgen Klopp’s blunt view on FSG spending after Man City and Everton charges

ThisIsAnfield.com - 7 hours 22 min ago

Jurgen Klopp has made it clear he had no issues with Fenway Sports Group’s spending during his time at Liverpool, as they “never overdid it” like other clubs.

There is a belief among certain supporters that Klopp was underfunded throughout his tenure as Liverpool manager, and that he would have enjoyed more success with more money.

But as he winds down his final days in charge, the German has insisted he was happy with doing it “the right way.”

“I could say now, ‘yes, you don’t back me enough and I could have been more successful’, but I never saw it that way,” he told journalists including the Times‘ Paul Joyce.

“We had discussions about it, but I would have never brought these discussions in public. I didn’t want to bring any feelings to the outside world that we were not united.

“If we had an argument then we have it internally, but outside we say: ‘Well, that’s our way, that’s how we do it’. I don’t understand it any other way.

“If it would help to invite the public into discussions. I am the first to do so, but it doesn’t help.

“For us, it is the Liverpool Way. We do it properly and do it the right way; we don’t overspend, we always spend what we earned either on the team, a stand or a building.

“This is a healthy club. You can say Barcelona are not healthy, but they are still up there. I don’t think we could do it that way.”

FSG’s ethos in running Liverpool has been to ensure the club is self-sustaining, with Klopp’s example of Barcelona a perfect way to describe what they are trying to avoid.

His final season saw both Nottingham Forest and Everton docked points for breaches of the Premier League‘s spending rules, while 115 charges are still looming over Man City.

Chelsea are under investigation after self-reporting financial irregularities under their previous ownership, which also overlapped FSG’s time at Liverpool.

As he continued, Klopp emphasised how Liverpool “never overdid it” like those clubs.

“It is not an emergency case and you hear that beep beep beep and it is close to [flatlining],” he explained.

“It is really healthy, a very vital club with a wonderful training ground, sensational stadium, financially not bad.

“That is what I am most proud of, that we could manage that, with all the things that happen over the years, in crazy times, we never overdid it.

“These points deductions and stuff like that, it’s horrible.

“I am not sure they cheated on purpose but somehow they knew, ‘mmmm, it’s probably not 100 percent right but maybe we can get through that’, and obviously they couldn’t.

“I really like the way we did it.”

Jurgen Klopp statue outside Anfield? Steven Gerrard is leading the calls

ThisIsAnfield.com - 7 hours 57 min ago

With Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool as one of the most beloved and successful managers in the club’s history, Steven Gerrard has led calls for a statue.

Klopp’s legacy at Liverpool goes far beyond the trophies, with the German changing the culture at the club and, more importantly, restoring belief among the fans.

He departs on Sunday deserving to be acknowledged alongside the likes of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Kenny Dalglish as one of the most important figures in the history of the club.

And while Klopp is not officially retiring, Gerrard believes his service to Liverpool warrants a statue being erected outside Anfield.

“The biggest thing for me was obviously after the disappointment of 2014, when we came so close, there was a lot of pain and a lot of hurt,” he explained in an emotional video for Sky Sports.

“Myself, my family and obviously a lot of Liverpool fans, there was a lot of doubt after that moment, there was a lot of pain from times.

“And I just hope to god that there’s a statue in the making, and I hope it’s nearly ready.

“Because I think he deserves that stature at the club. You mention Shankly, Fagan, Benitez, all the ones that have delivered the big prizes at Liverpool, that comes with huge pressure.

“It’s very difficult to achieve those big accolades. He’s right up there alongside the best, for sure.”

Gerrard left Liverpool for LA Galaxy just months before Brendan Rodgers was sacked and Klopp was brought in, with the legendary midfielder on record in confirming he would have stayed if that had happened sooner.

As he continued his reflection as part of Sky Sports’ must-watch video, the 43-year-old recalled his only time playing under Klopp – in a friendly against Sydney FC in Australia in 2017.

“We were invited to represent the first team, myself and Jamie [Carragher], in Australia for an exhibition match,” he said.

“Jurgen took the team, so we got a small segment of what it would be like when he’s standing in front of you and he’s giving you the tactics and the plan.

“I remember sitting there thinking to myself ‘I would pay any amount of money, and I would do anything for anyone, if I could represent this guy for one year’.

“That’s what I was thinking when I was sitting in the room.

“This was a friendly match, this was an exhibition, but I flew into that game like it was a cup final!”

There are already statues of Shankly, Paisley and founder John Houlding outside Anfield, while the Centenary Stand was renamed the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand in 2017.
